Our Story

FROM MILLENNIUM GREEN TO ABERFELDY STREET

Aberfeldy Boxing Club started with a simple idea: to give local children and young people somewhere positive to go and something positive to be part of.

Founder Kirk Whitelock, a local resident and businessman, could see there was a lack of activities available for young people in Aberfeldy. Rather than simply accepting it, he decided to do something about it.

Kirk began running a weekly boxing session outdoors on Millennium Green, giving local young people the opportunity to get active, learn new skills and experience the discipline and confidence that boxing can provide.

What started as one outdoor session soon began to grow.

BUILDING THE CLUB

As more young people got involved, Kirk brought Daryl Greenslade, a qualified teacher, on board to help run the sessions.

Together, Kirk and Daryl continued developing the club, building a community around the sessions and creating opportunities for more people to get involved.

There were a few makeshift homes along the way, but the ambition remained the same: to create a permanent place where people from the community could train, develop and feel welcome.

At the end of 2019, that ambition became a reality when Aberfeldy Boxing Club was handed the keys to its own unit at 29 Aberfeldy Street.

It was a huge milestone for the club. Then, just a few months later, everything changed.

A CHALLENGE WE NEVER EXPECTED

In March 2020, the country entered its first COVID-19 lockdown.

For a club that had been created to bring people together, suddenly having to close the doors of its new gym presented an enormous challenge.

But having an empty gym didn’t mean Aberfeldy Boxing Club stopped thinking about its community.

Instead, it made us think even harder about what our role within that community could be.

It was during this period that one of the club’s most important initiatives was born.

STOP THE STABBING. STICK TO JABBING.

A positive alternative for young people.

Stop the Stabbing. Stick to Jabbing. grew from our determination to use boxing and the influence of the club to make a positive difference in young people’s lives.

Boxing is about much more than learning how to throw a punch. It teaches discipline, respect, resilience and self-control. It gives people goals to work towards and somewhere they can feel part of a team.

Through boxing, mentoring and positive engagement, we want to give young people a safe environment, people they can talk to and opportunities to focus their energy on building a positive future.

COME WITH A PAST. LEAVE WITH A FUTURE.

We believe where somebody has come from doesn’t have to determine where they go next.
